ON SCREEN & STAGE: The Crown Series 5

1 min read

Our musicians appeared in three episodes, taking on three different ceremonial roles:

👑 In Episode 1, Queen Victoria Syndrome, we provided a full Royal Marines-style band as Queen Elizabeth II boarded the Royal Yacht Britannia.

👑 In Episode 2, The System, we were dressed as state trumpeters and performed for the entrance of Diana, Princess of Wales.

👑 And in Episode 4, Annus Horribilis, our fanfare trumpeters appeared for The Queen’s arrival at Guildhall.

Supplying musicians for television involves much more than finding excellent players.

Sometimes we provide the uniforms and instruments ourselves. On other productions, the costumes are created or supplied by the wardrobe department, and our role is to provide trained musicians who can fit those costumes, perform the music and carry themselves convincingly in the role.

The ensemble, instrumentation, instruments and ceremonial presentation all need to feel right for the scene. It’s our job to make sure it looks authentic as well as sounds authentic.

That’s the thinking behind our new On Screen & Stage series. We’ll be looking back at some of the television, film and stage productions our musicians have appeared in, sharing some of the work that goes into bringing these performances to life.

First up: The Crown, Series 5.

Whether you need bespoke musical direction or full uniform hire, we’d love to help bring your production to life. Contact Thomas Rudd to find out more.
